Here are 5 quick & easy tips to snap you into shape and feel better this Valentine’s Day.
1) Shop on the outside isles of the supermarket. For the next month try only purchasing food on the outside isles of the supermarket. Most of these foods are clean foods; this means it is unprocessed and unchanged by man and in most cases they are healthy, low fat foods that are packed with nutrients that stop your body craving those high sugar or salty foods.
Try this idea: When serving your meal try filling up at least half the plate with salad or vegetables.
2) Learn to read nutritional labels, you’ll become more aware of what you’re actually eating and you can make more informed decisions. If it doesn’t have a label or a brand attached to it eg: Kellogg’s, Allen’s, Mac Donald’s chances are it’s good for you…. Does fruit have a label? Of course not.
3) Boost your fibre intake at breakfast by choosing a cereal that has at least 5 grams of fibre per serving. Enhance fibre and nutrition by adding sunflower seeds, nuts, banana or strawberries. A good healthy breakfast starts the body, brain and kick-starts your metabolism. Most people who miss breakfast use that as an excuse so they can have more calories for a mid morning snack and end up binge eating on something high in fat and non-nutritious which will make you feel horrible approximately half hour after you’ve eaten it.
4) Cooking after work? Pouring oil out of a bottle to cook usually leads to accidental overuse. Try buying a spray bottle to pour your oil contents into or buy commercial cooking spray oil. You’ll realise a little goes a long way and saves you a lot of calories!
Stop having unnecessary calories
Did you know most people use a minimum of a 1 tablespoon ( 14mls) of oil to cook = 124 calories….. in comparison to spraying 5mls (which is a few sprays) = only 23 calories! But both will cook the same amount of food. Just by using this one tip will reduce your calories by 100 calories a day- it’s that simple!
5) Plan ahead- ‘Those who fail to plan- plan to fail’. We are creatures of habit what broke your diet before there is a high chance will break it again, have a substitutes for when your cravings kick in;
Example: If you have a sweet tooth next time instead of having lollies be prepared and have some nice cherries either packed for the office or in your fridge at home ready when that cravig hits.
